INTRODUCCIÓN PERSONAL A LA MAGIA / PERSONAL INTRODUCTION TO THE MAGIC

Hace mucho tiempo que tenía ganas de escribir sobre esto, y hoy eso se hace realidad: la magia. Este arte llegó a mi vida de manera totalmente inesperada, cuando yo tenía 23 años allá por 2013. De repente un compañero de trabajo demostró un juego de habilidad con una lapicera en el que la hacía desaparecer solo moviendo su mano cerca de su cabeza. Quedamos todos estupefactos, hasta que alguien se dio cuenta de lo que ocurría: el tipo pasaba su mano varias veces de manera lateral por su cabeza, muy rápidamente y con eso desviaba nuestra atención al punto tal de simplemente dejar la lapicera en el pequeño espacio entre su cabeza y la parte de arriba de su oreja. Siempre me gustó ver shows de magia, pero jamás pensé en hacerlo yo. Nos reímos mucho ese momento, pero algo nació en mí a partir de ese mismo instante, sin que yo supiese. Era la pasión por la magia.

Since a long time ago I started to feel that I really wanted to write about this, and today that feeling becomes in reality: the magic. This art arrived to my life in 2013. Suddenly, a work partner showed us a skill game with a pen where he was making it disappear just moving his hand close to his head. We were all astonished, until that someone just realized of what was going on: the man ran his hand several times sideways his head, very fast and on that way he diverted our attention at the point of just leaving the pen in the little space between his head and the up area of his ear. I always liked to watch magic shows, but I have never thought about me to make it. We laughed a lot in that moment, but something was born in myself, without know it. It was the passion for magic.

Con el tiempo, luego de hacer magia en cumpleaños (de forma más bien casual), en salidas con amigos, a compañeros de trabajo, y familia, me di cuenta de que a mí me gustaba mucho hacer eso, y de que a la gente en general también le gustaba lo que yo hacía. Muchos me dijeron que era bueno; yo no me lo creía. 

Over time, after performing magic in birthdays (in a casual way) going out with friends, to work mates and my family, I realized that I really liked to do that, and also that the people normally liked it what I was doing too. Many of them told me that I was good; I didn’t believe it.

Un día, decidí darme una oportunidad a mí mismo, e hice magia callejera por las calles de la rambla de Punta del Este, Uruguay en el verano de 2015/2016. Lo hice por necesidad económica. Estaba ahorrando dinero para irme de viaje a Nueva Zelanda y necesitaba otro trabajo además del que ya tenía. Busqué mucho; mandé e-mails, moví contactos, repartí alrededor de 60 cvs. (sí, 60). Nada.

One day, I decided to give a chance to myself, and I would perform magic on the streets by the promenade of Punta del Este, Uruguay in the 2015/2016 summer. I did it for economic need. I was saving money to travel to New Zealand and I needed another job plus to the one that I already had. I searched a lot; I sent e-mails, I moved contacts, I deliverd around 60 cvs. (yes, 60). Nothing.

En ese momento pensé “he estado buscando trabajo de todas las maneras posibles, no he conseguido nada. Necesito más dinero. Entonces, porqué no darme una oportunidad a mí mismo haciendo algo que me gusta, que a la gente le gusta como yo lo hago (importantísimo) y que sé como hacerlo?” Entonces lo hice, salía durante unas 3 horas a hacer magia (normalmente de las 18 a las 21) y me fue espectacular, coleccioné momentos hermosos, otros no tanto, hice una diferencia económica y aprendí mucho sobre como hacer magia y tratar con los espectadores. Esta primer experiencia ha sido reveladora en lo personal, y muy importante para mí. 

At that moment I thought ¨I have been looking for work in all the possible ways, I have not get anything. I need more money. Therefore, why not to give a chance to myself doing something that I like (very important) and that I know how to do it?¨ So I did it, I was going out during around 3 hours to make magic (normally from 18 to 21 hrs) and it went spectacular, I collected beautiful moments, another ones not so much, I made an economic difference and I learnt a lot about how to make magic and deal with the spectators. This first experience has been revealing personally talking, and very important for me.

Luego, en Enero de 2017, trabajé durante un mes en un pub en la ciudad de Hastings, Nueva Zelanda haciendo magia de cerca. Iba mesa por mesa haciendo distintos juegos de magia a los espectadores; aquí también logré hacer una diferencia economía al mismo tiempo que continuaba aprendiendo y desarrollándome con este arte. Esta experiencia fue distinta a la anterior. Igual de enriquecedora; pero me permitió aprender más sobre lo que tiene que ver con trabajar con público en un bar, la otra fue en la calle. 

Then, in the 2017 summer, I worked during one month in a pub in the city of Hastings, New Zealand performing close magic. I was going table by table making different magic games to the spectators; here I also achieved to make an economic difference at the same time that I kept going learning and developing myself with this art. This experience was different than the other one. Equally enriching; but allowed me to learn more about working with public in a bar, the other experience was on the street.
